40 Days of Gratitude
Hi guys!! Thank you for reading all these letters God has given me. This post is a little different. I want to introduce something I’ve decided to do for the next couple of weeks.
In my last post, “The Nuances of Everyday Life”, I described how after stumbling upon Erin Napier’s story, I realized that I had stopped seeing the immense glory riddled throughout my own days. I really desired to change that.
This morning, I was reading 2 Corinthians 9, and I was struck by the tremendous generosity of our God. To give context, the church in Corinth had decided to give an offering to help their fellow christians in Jerusalem, unprompted and full of zeal. Paul is talking to them about how their initial desire to give stirred other churches to do the same, even in the midst of their own severe affliction. A zealous joy came from their heart to uplift their fellow believers. Paul talks about how they must give not out of compulsion or reluctance, but out of genuine cheer because that honors the Lord.
2 Corinthians 9:8 (AMP) says,
8 And God is able to make all grace [every favor and earthly blessing] come in abundance to you, so that you may always [under all circumstances, regardless of the need] have complete sufficiency in everything [being completely self-sufficient in Him], and have an abundance for every good work and act of charity.
This verse talks about how the Lord takes care of us so that we may have everything we need, and out of the abundance that He gives us, also supply the needs of others (2 Corinthians 8:12-15). One translation says, “that we may have all contentment in all things at all times”. The word contentment spoke so loudly to me. The Lord provides that we may be content, have enough, in all circumstances.
I’ve seen this in my own life recently. God has blessed me abundantly, making sure I have exactly what I need, and then enough to bless others as well. Sometimes we forget how blessed we are, but there is more God is doing in each day than we realize. These 40 days is an act of discipline—to intentionally stop and recognize all the ways God is displaying his glory in our lives. Come along :)
The 40 days will be posted on Instagram and the blog each day so stay tuned.
