Getting There: Thoughts on the Process

This week’s video follows me on a walk unpacking weakness and the process.

As I began editing this video, I am struck with the intentionality of God’s design. This particular morning I went on a walk which was not uncommon, but I also wandered into this butterfly garden our local park created. As I’m thinking about the beauty of the process and God’s love for it, I am watching one of the greatest processes there is. A garden. Flowers and plants that went through their own process and are still in the midst of it, yet it is beautiful.

God is so funny. I have a tattoo on my arm that reminds me of this same thing. Years ago, I was discouraged and fed up with my imperfection, my inability to do the right thing, to be completely made right by my own effort. Though I knew the Gospel, and loved the Lord Jesus, I struggled to embrace his sacrifice and mercy over my life. Perfection is not our call. Surrender and Intimacy is.

That day, God showed me the truth again. I was expecting life and myself to be linear, a perfectly cut bouquet at all times. I was frustrated with the thorns, the death, and the dirt. God revealed to me that life is like a garden. There are things at all stages of growth, some flowers just budding, some in full bloom, some in the midst of their lifespan, and some wilting in their end. Yet, it all is beautiful.

So I encourage you to also give yourself grace today, it is all beautiful.
